A New Year, But the Same Fight

A New Year, But the Same Fight

A new year has arrived.

2026 is here, full of promise, fresh calendars, and hopeful words about new beginnings. But for many of us, especially SEND parents, the reality is more complicated.

Because while the year changes, the anxiety often comes with us.

There’s a unique kind of weight that SEND parents carry. It’s the constant advocating, the endless emails, the waiting lists that feel never-ending, the tribunals that take months of emotional energy, and the EHCP processes that demand strength even when you feel you have none left to give.

This anxiety isn’t something we choose. It’s something that comes from loving our children fiercely and knowing that without our voices, they may not get what they need.

Right now, I am continuing to advocate personally for a supportive and appropriate setting for our youngest. It’s not easy. There are days when it feels overwhelming, frustrating, and exhausting. But it’s also the reason I truly understand what so many other parents are going through.

I understand the sleepless nights. The constant worry. The fear of saying the wrong thing in a meeting. The pressure of having to “prove” your child’s needs over and over again.

If you’re reading this and feeling seen, please know this: you are not weak for feeling anxious. You are not failing because you feel tired. You are doing something incredibly hard, and you’re doing it out of love.

No parent should have to navigate this alone.

That’s why support matters — real, impartial support from people who understand the system and the emotional toll it takes. Sometimes you don’t need answers straight away. Sometimes you just need to be heard, to talk things through, and to feel validated.

If you’re at that point, we’re here. Our Family Support Lead, Caroline, offers 1:1 video chats for parents who need advice, guidance, or simply someone who understands the journey. A safe space, without judgement, where your experience matters.

As we move through 2026, I hope you remember this:

You are not alone.

Your voice matters.

And asking for support is a strength, not a weakness.

We keep going — not because it’s easy, but because our children deserve it.
