One of the questions we get asked most often is why we run our makerspace workshops. The short answer is simple: because we believe every family deserves access to creative, hands-on learning experiences, no matter their background or budget.
The longer answer is a little more complicated.
Behind the scenes, many of our workshops actually cost more to run than we earn from them. Materials, equipment upkeep, space, prep time, and skilled facilitators all add up quickly. This isn’t something we shy away from—it’s a conscious choice. The whole point of what we do is to help as many families as possible, not to price people out of opportunities to learn, create, and explore together.
That said, sustainability matters. If we want these workshops to continue—and grow—we need to make sure we’re meeting real needs in our community and partnering with the right kinds of groups.
So we’d love to ask you directly.
What Would Be Most Helpful for Your Family?
If you were looking for a club or group to support your family’s needs, what would that look like?
After-school makers clubs?
Weekend family build sessions?
Sensory-friendly or inclusive workshops?
Skill-focused sessions (woodworking, metal pressing etc).
We want to design workshops and clubs that genuinely support families—whether that’s educational, social, creative, or all three. Your feedback helps us focus our time, energy, and resources where they’ll make the biggest difference.
If you’ve attended our workshops before, thank you for being part of this journey. If you haven’t yet, we hope to welcome you soon. And if you have ideas, needs, or even challenges you’d like us to help address, please share them with us.
This makerspace exists because of community—and it will continue because of it💛
We’d also love to see you in person. Our next makerspace workshop is happening 6 February 2026, 4–6pm, at Noughts & Crosses. Whether you’re coming to build, create, or simply see what we’re about, you’re always welcome—and every conversation helps us shape a makerspace that truly serves our community.
